FN Caussin violin - circa 1870

Picture

FN Caussin $12,000*

Brompton’s certified FN Caussin Violin circa 1870

Very fine French made violin by FN Caussin circa 1870. Lovely arching produces sweet and full character in sound.

Current estimated insurance replacement value of $12,000. This is a very fine violin that needs to go to a good home, it is one of my favorites. A player’s violin that is fun to play. Each string gives its own character and blends well with one another. I want to try some gut strings on this mean machine!

* Asking $12,000 or best reasonable and fair offer to go to a good home that will love it as much as we do.

An established, awarded, and prolific violin maker in Cremona, Italy. Graduated from the International School of Violinmaking in Cremona, Italy. His viola sold at auction for $4680 in 2007.

Fine Spruce top. Fine two-piece Maple back of thin to medium flame, offset. Similar Maple throughout neck and sides. Varnish of red-brown over Amber ground.

Expertly appointed with raised and rolled edging treatments. Excellent attention to detail of workmanship throughout. Setup and ready to play. This is a player’s violin. This violin has been thoroughly and consistently played by a professional and has been “broken in” for 10+ years. Big sound, lots of color in tone, has a sweet punch to the back of the hall.

Great looking instrument. Sounds really good. Has sound like that of a Collin-Mezin because of its high arching. Cool looking single piece back. Maybe circa 1950’s?
